Surf Etiquette Every Lombok Visitor Should Know

Surf etiquette protects people and keeps crowded lineups functioning. The surfer closest to the breaking part of the wave generally has priority. Do not drop in, snake around others or paddle directly through the path of someone riding. When paddling out, move toward the whitewater when safe rather than forcing the rider to change direction.

Control your equipment

Do not release your board unless there is no safer option. Maintain enough distance that your board cannot strike someone if you fall. Beginners should practise in suitable areas instead of entering an advanced peak because it is famous. Apologise clearly when you make a mistake and learn from it.

Respect local knowledge

Observe before entering, greet people and avoid arriving with an entitled attitude. Local surfers understand currents, reef and changing conditions.
